New painting by Kęstutis Paliokas at MAC virtual galery

(New artworks in the virtual gallery are red framed.)

"<...>his works contained hidden allusions or even allegories, as well as a certain tension between the visible and the invisible. Simple everyday objects and characters looked solemn and mysterious." (Raminta Jurėnaitė)

New painting by Vladislovas Žilius at MAC virtual galery

(New artworks in the virtual gallery are red framed.)

"Vladas Žilius was one of those stubborn and talented modernists, who from the beginning of the sixties did not conform with the soviet system in no way." (bernardinai.lt)

"Speaking Money" by Giedrius Jonaitis

(New artworks in the gallery is red framed.)

"The artist is an author of Lithuanian money graphic design (with the exception of 100 ltl and 200 ltl). Jonaitis uses traditional graphic techniques (lithography, intaglio printing) as well as spatial means - constructs assemblages, creates installations. His works are characterized by irony, balancing on kitsch and absurd limits." (Artnews.lt)

Prints and drawings by Danutė Gražienė

"Danutė Gražienė is a representative of the "nocturnal" graphic art of Lithuania. Yet in her work night only sets in, it is the time of "dusk", of "twilight", or to emply a more explicit metaphor, her graphic art is melancholic." (A. Andriuškevičius, R. Rachlevičiūtė "Danutė Gražienė")

New painting by Igoris Piekuras at MAC virtual galery

(New artworks in the virtual gallery are red framed.)

„Piekuras always had his field of expression that was distant from the traditional Lithuanian school. He chose rational means of painting: painted in monochrom colours, drew graphically, installed the view. He was always seeking for plastic expression, trying new materials, experimenting, using self-invented pitch, enamel - that was the way of working that he was interested in.” (Nijolė Nevčesauskienė, artistsassociation.lt)

New drawing by Audrius Puipa at MAC virtual galery

(New artworks in the virtual gallery are red framed.)

„In Puipas’ works narratives are prosperous as the baroque garden: full of stories, dreams and gossips. Stories are not only portrayed, but written as well, the real ones and fantasized.” (Monika Krikštopaitytė)

Drawings by Edmundas Saladžius

(New artworks in the virtual gallery are red framed.)

"The artist likes and knows how to use Aesop's tongue, and this creates considerable tension to the viewer. His visuals always have a hidden meaning. And not straight, but the tricky one. To say accuratelly - slippery." (Monika Krikštopaitytė)

Algimantas Maldutis photography at MAC Virtual Gallery

(Click on the image to see more artworks.)

"A. Maldutis works are rich in urban iconography – road signs, power poles, wires, factory chimneys, crossing fences, concrete walls, and they are here not to create an illusion of an expanding city, but to reveal the dreariness and meaninglessness of everyday life." (photography.lt)

Sculptures by Marius Zavadskis at MAC Virtual Gallery

(Click on the image to see more artworks.)

"M. Zavadskis is not only a sculptor in the narrow sense but also the artist in the broad profile: from monumentalist to illustrator. Beauty and intellect are correlating in all his artistic fields. Artist is trying to give aesthetically attractive form for intellectual things (cultural experiences, historical allusions) and intellectual aura or at least its imitation to beautiful things (even if they are kitsch elements)." How to read paintings

A work of art remains speechless until the mind of perceiver speaks to it. Only then a man gets acquainted with his work. Once started this acquaintance doesn’t want to let go and always invites to come back and experience the joy of discovery, learn to watch and penetrate.

This segment is designed to help the works that are in the virtual MMC gallery to start speaking your language. Thanks to art critics and authors cooperation, texts-guidebooks are being made for paintings. This will give an opportunity to study the world of art in a closer look.

Teaching gallery – is an educational project aiming to present Lithuanian art in the space of a school. The project is implemented by the collaboration between non-govermental organization IDES and Modern Art Center. Teaching gallery is projected towards the school communities (teachers and students) who will get a chance to engage into the Lithuanian modern and contemporary art by exploring exhibitions of the artworks’ reproductions in the daily school space.
The first exhibition will be dedicated to the classical Lithuanian photography by presenting the works of Antanas Sutkus, Vaclovas Straukas and Romualdas Rakauskas. The reproductions are made using the artworks of Modern Art Center collection. The related educational material is prepared with the advice of art critics and educators and it could be used as an optional material for art lessons at school.
The first seminar for school teachers, taking part in Teaching gallery, will take place on the 25th April. It will be followed by the monthly exhibitions in 10 Lithuanian schools.
